The coast. Newton Hall, Doxford Barns, Charlton Hall, Ellingham Hall and Barn on the Bay are all near the Northumberland coast, between Alnwick and Druridge Bay. Expect big skies and some wind.
The country. Woodhill Hall and Le Petit Château are near Otterburn, in the Northumberland hills. Matfen Hall, The Parlour at Blagdon and Shotton Grange are close to Newcastle and the A1, which helps guests travelling in.
1. Woodhill Hall, Otterburn
Woodhill Hall is the most-reviewed venue in this guide, with 257 five-star reviews on Bridebook. Woodhill Hall's website places it at Otterburn, in 100 acres of private land by the River Rede. The venue says it's licensed for ceremonies of up to 110 guests, takes up to 120 guests across its indoor and outdoor spaces, and can sleep up to 36 on site.

I haven't photographed a wedding at Woodhill Hall yet. Its spaces include the Olive House and the Orangery, and it suits couples who want a whole estate in the countryside. Bridebook lists it under Newcastle upon Tyne, but the venue's own address is Otterburn, NE19.
2. Ellingham Hall, Chathill

3. Matfen Hall, Matfen
Matfen Hall is a country house hotel near Ponteland, in Matfen village. Matfen Hall's website says it sits in more than 300 acres of parkland and has 63 bedrooms. Bridebook lists a seated capacity of 100 and 139 five-star reviews.
