Lewis and Olivia | Hackness Grange

Lewis and Olivia were married at Hackness Grange, just outside Scarborough, in October 2023, and I had the pleasure of being their wedding photographer. Their ceremony and celebrations were both at the Grange, which meant a relaxed day with no travelling between locations. That’s always good news for the couple and for the photographs. Hackness Grange has a lot going for it. There’s a lake with a bridge over it, an open meadow and pretty gardens, so you get plenty of variety without leaving the grounds. In summer the meadow catches beautiful golden-hour light, and on darker evenings the bridge gives lovely reflections on the water. I like to use that variety for a few short, relaxed portraits and then get the couple back to their guests, because that’s where the best moments are. The rest of the time I’m blending in and letting the day unfold naturally. If you’re getting married at Hackness Grange, it would be great to have a chat.

The ceremony took place on the island at Hackness Grange, one of the most distinctive outdoor ceremony spaces in North Yorkshire. It was a sunny autumn day, the kind that makes the colours in the grounds glow, and Lewis and Olivia were surrounded by their closest family and friends. They were relaxed from start to finish, which always makes my job easier because the photographs end up looking exactly like the day felt.

Hackness Grange sits on Broxa Lane in the village of Hackness, just outside Scarborough, with the North York Moors National Park all around it. Having the ceremony, the drinks and the reception in one place meant the day flowed easily, with plenty of time to enjoy it and no rushing between locations.

If you’re planning a wedding at Hackness Grange, or you’re looking at venues across North Yorkshire and the North York Moors, get in touch and we can talk through your day.
