Quick answer: there are no bedrooms at Danby Castle Barn itself. The closest places to stay are Stony Broke Cottage (0.9 miles), the Fox & Hounds in Ainthorpe, which has rooms and glamping pods, and Ruth Top (both 1.3 miles). Danby's Duke of Wellington Inn is 2.5 miles away. For big groups, look at the Yorkshire Cycle Hub bunkhouse (sleeps 26), Craven Garth Cottages (up to 24) or No. 30 Whitby (20). All distances are from the venue's own accommodation list (Feb 2026).
Why I know this area
I got married at Danby Castle, in the barn, so I've been the couple with a spreadsheet trying to work out where everyone was going to sleep. I'm also one of the venue's recommended suppliers, and I've photographed more weddings there than I can count.
I'm Aaron, a calm, friendly wedding photographer for relaxed, adventurous couples who'd rather wander through a field with their dog than stand posing for the camera.
Danby sits right in the middle of the North York Moors. That's the whole appeal, but it also means rooms close by are limited and get booked up quickly in wedding season. Here's where I'd point your guests, grouped by how close they are and who they suit.

Inns with rooms
The Fox & Hounds, Ainthorpe (1.3 miles). It's the nearest inn, with 10 en-suite rooms and 8 glamping pods. The inn's own site says it dates from 1555. It's a good shout for the wedding party the night before.
The Duke of Wellington Inn, Danby (2.5 miles). An 18th-century inn on Danby village green with en-suite double, twin and single rooms. Guests often stay here for Danby Castle weddings.
The Board Inn, Lealholm (5.9 miles). A riverside inn in Lealholm with five en-suite rooms. Dogs are welcome.
The Jack and Jill Coaching Inn (4 miles, 12 mins). Nine en-suite rooms, sleeping 18, next to Scaling Dam reservoir. Its site notes that the inn is unmanned at night and that late check-in has to be agreed in advance, so tell guests who'll be coming back after the evening do.
Cottages and big-group houses
If you've got a group of friends who want to stay together, these are the ones to look at:
- Church House Farm Cottages (2.9 miles). Four cottages around an old farmyard, from one to three bedrooms. Their site mentions minimum stays of three or four nights, so check before booking a single night.
- Yorkshire Cycle Hub bunkhouse (3.2 miles). Sleeps up to 26 across six en-suite rooms, with a shared kitchen. It's the budget-friendly option for a big group of friends.
- Forest Lodge Cottages, Castleton (4.9 miles). Three cottages sleeping 8, 6 and 4.
- Craven Garth Cottages (7 miles, 12 mins). Six cottages that can be booked together for up to 24 guests, so the whole family can take the lot.
- Baysdale Abbey (11.5 miles, 28 mins). Eight bedrooms for 16+ guests.
Dog-friendly places to stay
A lot of my couples bring their dog to the wedding, and plenty of guests want to bring theirs too. Some places to start:
- The Board Inn, Lealholm: dogs are welcome in the rooms for a small nightly charge.
- The Duke of Wellington Inn: takes up to two well-behaved dogs in two of its double rooms, by prior arrangement.
- The Fox & Hounds glamping pods: dog-friendly pods 1.3 miles from the barn.
- Craven Garth Cottages: all six cottages are dog-friendly.
Dog policies change, so ask guests to confirm when they book. The Jack and Jill doesn't take pets in its rooms.

Getting back after the party
This is the bit couples forget. Danby is out on the moors, with no streetlights and not many taxis.
- Book a minibus or taxis well before the day, and agree the last pick-up time with the venue.
- Danby has a station on the Esk Valley line. The Fox & Hounds' site says it's about a 20-minute walk from the inn. Check train times, because they're limited.
- Staying within walking distance, or close enough for a short shared taxi, makes the end of the night a lot easier.
Whitby as a base
If your guests want to make a weekend of it by the sea, two places on the venue's list work well:
- No. 30 Whitby (18.4 miles, 20 mins). Sleeps 20 in 10 en-suite rooms, so it suits a big group of friends.
- St Hilda's Complex, Hinderwell (11.3 miles, 15 mins). B&B rooms and cottages, some with hot tubs.
Towards Guisborough, The Fox and Hound Hotel, Slapewath (8 miles, 20 mins) has 13 en-suite rooms.

Your day, without the photoshoot feel
I document your day like a friend who's always one step ahead. I'll carry the flowers, pin the buttonholes, and know when you've had enough of the camera.
Your wedding shouldn't feel like a photoshoot. You get to spend the day with your friends and family, and I'll catch the little moments you'd otherwise miss, like your mum and dad dancing, the kids playing, or the dog looking down the lens.
