Wild Camp - The Highlands

When I first saw buachaille etive mor in a magazine I just knew I had to visit and get my self a photograph of the mountain. Its unlike any mountain I've ever seen before. When you first sweep around the bend on the A82 there it is, rising out of the ground into a perfect point high in the sky.

For me this trip has been in the planning for over a year to make sure the conditions are perfect. I would say the best time to visit is late winter or early spring....you just have to be lucky with the weather, which we were.

The plan was to drive up Friday morning, climb up the opposite hill to around 600m and camp. Saturday would consist of a full day of exploring buachaille etive mor and Glen Etive. Sunday would be an early start to get what ever photos I could and then set off on the long journey home. It came off perfectly, the weather was stunning from the moment we got there to the minute we left, deer seemed to be around every corner and crystal clear rivers criss crossed over the glen. It literally was a photographers paradise.

After a hard slog on Saturday walking through what seemed to be never ending bog we set up camp early beside the river coupall. With a bit of time to kill we headed down into Glen Etive to see what we could find before the sun set. With just minutes to spare I managed to get the above shot. I just love every thing about it.

Sunday was just like the previous two, blue sky's, a hard frost and amazing views. An early start meant I could capture this famous image of the mountain before we packed up and headed home.

The weekend was a huge success and the gamble if we should go because of the weather forecast paid off this time. I got all the images I wanted and more, spent the weekend in great company and had my breath taken away around every bend.
