Top 10 Teesside Wedding Venues, From a Photographer Who Shoots Them

Quick answer: The ten Teesside wedding venues in this guide are Rushpool Hall, Howard Court, The Croft, Whinstone View, Gisborough Hall, Crathorne Hall, Rockliffe Hall, Wynyard Hall, Blackwell Grange and The Hidden Oak. They cover Middlesbrough, Stockton, Darlington, Redcar & Cleveland and the edge of the North York Moors. I've photographed weddings at nine of them and a styled shoot at the tenth.

I'm a documentary wedding photographer based in Guisborough, so Teesside is my home patch. Couples looking for wedding venues in Teesside or Middlesbrough usually ask me the same few things: which places photograph well, what happens if it rains, and where guests can stay. This guide answers those, venue by venue.

How I picked these Teesside wedding venues

I started with venues that won a Hitched Wedding Award in 2026, then looked at how many reviews each has on Bridebook, and then at where I've actually worked. Every capacity and review figure below is from the venue's Bridebook listing as of 22 October 2026 unless I say it's from the venue's own website. Venues change their packages often, so always check the latest details with the venue.

1. Rushpool Hall, Saltburn-by-the-Sea

Rushpool Hall is a country house in woodland near Saltburn, and it won a Hitched Wedding Award in 2026. According to Rushpool Hall's own website, it takes up to 110 day guests and 180 evening guests. Bridebook lists 19 bedrooms and 86 five-star reviews, the most of any Teesside venue I checked.

The photos

I've photographed more than five weddings at Rushpool Hall. The lakes, the temple walkway and the ballroom are the three places I come back to. The woodland gives soft, even light for portraits, even in the middle of the day.

Rushpool is part of the Gilchrist Collection. It suits couples who want a country house with a bit of age to it, close to the coast. My Rushpool Hall guide has more on the spaces and photo spots.

2. Howard Court, Great Ayton

Howard Court is an exclusive-use barn venue on the A173 between Great Ayton and Stokesley, and it won a Hitched Wedding Award in 2026. Howard Court's website says it sits in 22 acres, takes up to 100 day guests and 150 evening guests, and has five indoor and outdoor ceremony areas.

The photos

Roseberry Topping and the Cleveland Hills sit behind the venue, which gives portraits a backdrop local couples recognise straight away. The arched windows in The Old Dairy fill the room with soft side light, so the ceremony looks natural without flash.

Good to know

I'm a recommended supplier at Howard Court. It only runs one wedding at a time, so there's no rush to clear the barn. My Howard Court wedding photographer page goes into the spaces in more detail.

3. The Croft, Croft-on-Tees, Darlington

The Croft is a Grade II-listed hotel beside the parish church in Croft-on-Tees, on the River Tees between Darlington and North Yorkshire. It won a Hitched Wedding Award in 2026. The Croft's website lists 24 bedrooms, a Garden Chapel for ceremonies and a Garden Suite with a retractable roof that opens onto a garden terrace. Bridebook lists a seated capacity of 110 and 53 five-star reviews.

The photos

The Garden Chapel has big antique doors and mirrors, and the Garden Suite has a wall of sliding glass, so there's plenty of daylight to work with. The village and the riverside are a short walk away for portraits.

Gisborough Hall's wedding page lists the Madoc Suite for 40 to 200 guests and the Glass House for ceremonies of up to 80.

The photos

I've photographed a styled shoot at The Hidden Oak rather than a wedding. The lakes and the oak barn were the two settings I worked with.

Choosing your Teesside wedding venue

Rain plan. Ask every venue where the ceremony and drinks go if it pours. Howard Court has a canopy and heaters in its courtyard, and The Croft's Garden Suite has a retractable roof. A covered space with big windows will do more for your photos than a dark function room.

Light. Rooms with big windows, like The Old Dairy at Howard Court or the Glass House at Gisborough Hall, give the most natural photos. In winter in Teesside the sun sets around 4pm, so plan portraits for early afternoon.

Travel. Crathorne Hall, The Croft and Blackwell Grange are close to the A19, A1(M) and A66. Rushpool Hall and Gisborough Hall are closer to the coast and the moors.

Guest rooms. If most guests are staying over, Blackwell Grange (108 bedrooms), Gisborough Hall (61) and Whinstone View (40) have the most rooms, according to Bridebook.
