North Yorkshire Wedding | Mallyan Spout
A North Yorkshire Wedding
As a North Yorkshire Wedding photographer, I have always wanted to have the opportunity to photograph couples in some of our breathtaking scenery. Last year I finally had the chance to photograph Heather and Mark at one of North Yorkshires famous waterfalls.
I photographed Heather and Mark at the Mallyan Spout Hotel for their North Yorkshire Wedding. The Mallyan Spout Hotel is a country hotel in the tiny North Yorkshire village of Goathland, which is the home of Heartbeat!
This wedding soon turned out to be one of my favourite weddings of all time.
Heather first contacted me to see if I was free. I was, but it was my birthday, so I wasn’t too keen to be working on what was such a busy wedding season anyway.
After spending so much time in the local area photographing the waterfalls that the hotel is named after, I proposed we head down there for their photos. At the time, I didn’t know Heather and Mark were such huge fans of the outdoors. As it’s a bit of a tricky walk to the waterfall, I wasn’t expecting an answer, never mind a yes!
After a few emails, phone calls and a scouting engagement photoshoot, it was the day of the wedding. I loved working with Heather and Mark so much. I was constantly reminded about how much they value photography and the outdoors. Something we all had in common.
I love working with people who share the same values as me. It helps me get to know the couples I photograph, and instead of becoming subjects, those barriers are removed, and it is just like photographing friends.
Heading To The Waterfall
The wedding was perfect. The Mallyan spout hotel is beautiful, and the food was stunning. In addition, they have some amazing gardens that offer breathtaking views of North Yorkshire. So as far as a North Yorkshire wedding goes, it was perfect.
For myself, though, I couldn’t wait to head down to the waterfall. It usually is so hard to find a bride that will take such a risk when it comes to her wedding dress. I have always said that you only get out what you put into your photos.
Heather and Mark both understood that this is a once in a lifetime opportunity. To get the most breathtaking photos possible it was just something they weren’t going to miss out on.
As far as a North Yorkshire wedding goes, this is right up there as the very best I have photographed. Not just because I got the chance to photograph Heather and Mark in such breathtaking scenery, but because I got to meet them. They are such a great couple to be around. We both value photography and the outdoors just as much as each other.
This is a wedding that will stay in my mind for a long time.
