Eden Barn Wedding | Patrick And Lucy
I first met Patrick and Lucy for their engagement photo shoot. After a few email exchanges and the odd phone call, I kind of knew what I was expecting but not entirely.
Put it this way, they blew me over, and I couldn’t wait to photograph their wedding. They are such a fantastic couple and so down to earth. Lucy is this little whirlwind full of energy, and Patrick is there to rain her in and keep things moving. We seemed to hit it off straight away, which helps so much when it comes to your wedding photos.
Fast forward to 2021, and I found myself just over the pennies in Cumbria on a hot, sunny late summer morning.
Lucy and Her family had decided to hire a huge converted barn for their bridal prep. It was great to finally meet her bridesmaids and family and catch up with them all.
I treat every bridal prep I photograph the same. I never want to be seen as a photographer. When most people see someone walking around with a camera, they instantly tense up. Being myself and taking the time out to get to know people helps pull down those barriers. After 30 minutes or so, I’m just Aaron walking around with a camera and not the photographer.
When Lucy first got in touch, you said to me how much she wanted to have fun on her wedding day and if you could use smoke bombs! So I jumped at the chance to use some on the morning before everyone was in their bridal dresses. Its little things like smoke bombs can set your photos apart.
Once the bridal prep was photographed, I headed down the road to photograph the last parts of Patrick and his groomsmen getting ready.
Eden Barn is a stunning wedding venue not far from the A66 on the Cumbrian border. It was created by the family that owns the business back in 2015 when their daughter asked if she could use the barn for her wedding. I cannot recommend Eden Barn enough, and it has quickly turned into one of my favourite wedding venues to photograph.
Eden Barn is a mixture of old and new, which works perfectly.
One of my favourite parts of Eden Barn is their waiting room. I know what you are thinking! I honestly think more venues that don’t have on-site accommodation should have something like this. It gave me an excellent opportunity to capture Lucy just enjoying a moment of calm on what can be a hectic day. I love this photo so much. I think it shows that time just before a bride walks down the aisle and makes that ultimate commitment.
The ceremony was held in the old barn. It’s a beautifully restored, high vaulted barn. The grandeur takes your breath away and offers something that a lot of barn conversions don’t.
After the ceremony, we had plenty of time to capture some group photos along with those all-important candid shots. It felt incredible being in that setting, just watching people enjoy themselves after what had been a tough year.
After the wedding breakfast and speeches, we managed to get outside and be creative with some smoke bombs before heading back inside for the first dance.
Luch and Patrick finished their day off with an incredible sparkler procession.
