Tracy and Mike | North Yorkshire Moors Railway Wedding
A North Yorkshire Moors Railway Wedding
At the end of last summer, I received a phone call from Mike asking if I was free to photograph his wedding. His friend was supposed to photographing the wedding day, but after a horror move to Scotland, he couldn’t make it. It was very short notice, but I was free, so I jumped at the chance.
The only details I knew where the hotel where they were stopping and that they were getting married on the platform at Pickering train station.
I want to say that I love these type of weddings! The last-minute rush with no prep time adds to the excitement for me, and it gives you a greater range to be creative on the day. There are no lists of group shots or photos in this window or under that archway. Its pure creativity, photograph what you see….its art.
After a short time at the hotel meeting all the family and photographing Mike, his son and grandson having a game football and getting those essential bridal prep photos we headed down to Pickering train station for the ceremony. It was a secret to the guests, but Tracy and Mike had haired a piper to lead Tracy into the station. Bagpipes always make me stop in my tracks, but listening to one fill, the station made my hairs and the back of my neck stand up. Its something ill never forget.
After a magical ceremony on the station platform, we had chance to relax and soak up the incredible atmosphere at Pickering train station with some canapes and drinks before jumping on one of the steam trains and heading off through the magnificent North Yorkshire Moors to our next stop.
Once on the old steam train, we were served an afternoon tea that was prepared from Mulberries. They are a local cafe at the bottom of the platform that specialises in local homemade food. By this time we were at full speed, meandering through the valleys on our way to our final stop in Grosmont. We had about an hour for us to walk around the village and stop off at the local pub for a well-earned drink. This was a perfect time for me to get some photos of Tracy and Mike and try and get some of that North Yorkshire countryside in the background. Luckily Grosmont doesn’t disappoint.
Once our time was up in Grosmont and the train was turned around we headed back off down the route we came. Our destination was pickering and this time we were heading to a party.
I loved being a part of Tracy and Mike’s wedding. They made me really feel like one of the guests.
